Officers with the Norman Police Department are set to be equipped with body cameras.
The Norman Transcript reports that beta testing of the cameras is scheduled to begin within the month. The full set of body cameras are expected in a few months.
City manager Steve Lewis recently announced that three vendors have been chosen for the beta test. According to police Chief Keith Humphrey, officers will use the body cameras from each of the vendors across all four shifts to get a full perspective of how each system works.
The equipment will be funded by $750,000 provided by the Public Safety Sales Tax.
Humphrey says a policy for storage of footage is still being worked out with the city's legal department.
