SoonerCon Moves to New Venue in Norman

SoonerCon 28 kicks off this weekend in a new larger location.

The longest running pop culture convention takes place Friday through Sunday at the Embassy Suites in Norman with fans of science fiction, fantasy and comic books coming together.

Convention Chair Aislinn Burrows says this year SoonerCon is also moving into the realm of hard science and STEM programing.

“We have several scientists and other academics coming in this year to either do some hands on demos or discussions. We’re super stoked about our science guest of honor, Lonnie Johnson. He is an inventor.”

Other featured guests include Nana Visitor from Star Trek-Deep Space Nine, international best-selling author Kevin J. Anderson and fantasy, sci-fi artist Julie Dillon.

Adult cosplayers are getting a chance to show off their works in a costume contest Saturday night at 8:00 with a kids costume contest Sunday morning at 11:00.

One day passes are $30 with weekend passes at $50 and kids under 12 are free with a paying adult.
