On Wednesday morning, the Senate Health and Human Services committee met to consider, among other measures, six bills that would restrict access to abortion. Outside the committee room, a few dozen anti-abortion activists — including young children — gathered.

They came in support of Senate Bill 495, a bill that would define life as beginning at conception, and abortion as murder. The other abortion bills on the committee’s agenda, the protesters said, were unacceptable because they didn’t go far enough.

Ultimately, to the protesters’ displeasure, SB495 was unanimously voted down by the committee. The other five abortion bills, on the other hand, were sent to the full Senate with 7-3 votes along party lines.
