Governor Kevin Stitt says Oklahoma hospitals have more than enough beds and ventilators to treat a potential surge in COVID-19 patients.
Stitt says Oklahoma has more than four times the number of hospital beds the state health department predicts will be needed, more than three times the number of necessary ICU beds, and more than nine times the number of ventilators.
"We are in good shape, but I want Oklahomans to know that just because the models continue to look better over time, we must keep our guard up against this virus," Stitt said in a statement.
The health department model predicts coronavirus cases will peak in late April. The agency’s data suggests the curve representing the changing rate of infections in Oklahoma is staying flat.
The health department predicts by May 1 there will be 9,300 positive cases and nearly 470 people will have died.
