An Annie E. Casey Foundation report found that Oklahoma ranks in the bottom 10 for health and well-being of its children.
The annual rankings of the foundation's KIDS COUNT data book assess how states stack up when it comes to childrens’ well-being related to economics, education and health.
In many metrics, Oklahoma made modest gains when compared to previous years. But still, more than half of 3 and 4-year-olds weren't enrolled in school and roughly 20 percent of Oklahoma children live in poverty.
The results rely on pre-pandemic statistics, so how the pandemic affects Oklahoma's ranking remains to be seen. But a late 2020 report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation found that problems pre-pandemic were likely to be exacerbated in several ways.
