Oklahoma district courts are postponing non-emergency hearings while the coronavirus pandemic progresses. The Oklahoma Supreme Court ordered all jury trials to be pushed back and deadlines for civil, juvenile and criminal cases be suspended for at least a month.
The high court ordered judges to continue arraignments, bond hearings and other required proceedings on a case by case basis. People who have coronavirus symptoms or who have traveled out of the country in the last two weeks are banned from Oklahoma courts.
District Courts across the state will have to determine how best to obey the order.
In response, the Oklahoma County District Court is postponing hearings for criminal cases in which the defendant is not already in jail.
Defendants will be given new court dates by their judge’s staff.
