Oklahoma school districts will now have the option to relax quarantine guidelines that have kept hundreds of students and teachers out of the classroom.
Students who have been exposed to COVID-19 will now be able to do their quarantines together in school. Students in the new quarantine pods must wear masks and be socially distanced.
The move, authorized by the Oklahoma Department of Health, comes after backlash to quarantining around the state. Some students weren’t staying home for 14-day periods after exposure.
The policy change will be temporary. State officials will see how it goes after the Thanksgiving holiday through the end of the fall semester before deciding if it should continue.
Centers for Disease Control guidelines still suggest quarantining for 14 days after being exposed to someone with the coronavirus.
