OKCPS to Layoff 92 Administrators

OKCPS Superintendent Rob Neu tells reporters the district is laying off 208 teachers in March.

Oklahoma City Public Schools is making another major cut to staff, in order to stay afloat financially. The district announced Thursday it will cut 92 administrators, equal to 18 percent of administrative staff, in order to save $5.1 million.

“We are forced to make these difficult decisions as a result of the statewide $1.3 billion dollar revenue failure, and a $30 million reduction to the OKCPS budget,” said OKCPS Superintendent Rob Neu in a press release.

The district said 59 of those positions will come from the Central Office Administration, and 33 will come from school site administration.

Just a few weeks ago the district announced it would lay off 208 teachers in order to save about $8 million.

The district is hoping to reduce its budget by a total of $30 million for next school year, and is still working on additional budget reductions of $17 million for programs, services, and operations. That announcement will be made in coming weeks.
