Feb 01 Saturday
Join us for the grand opening of the Focus: Black Rodeo photography exhibit, featuring works from ImpressOK from rodeos across Oklahoma. You'll have the chance to meet notable guests, including rodeo music director and Legacy Open Rodeo producer Tiffany Guess, legendary professional rodeo announcer Marcous Friday and two of Oklahoma's premier pony express teams.
Focus: Black Rodeo is a photography exhibition dedicated to honoring the rich, yet underrepresented, legacy of the Black rodeo culture in Oklahoma.
Photographers Jamie and Richard Glisson of ImpressOK Studio shine a light on the vibrant world of Black rodeos in Oklahoma — a world that has preservered in the face of America's Jim Crow era and ongoing institutional racism, which have kept these stories from receiving the same recognition as those of predominantly white rodeo circuits.
Focus: Black Rodeo seeks to create a narrative that invites visitors to experience the thrill, artistry and legacy of Black rodeos as a foundational aspect of American culture — one that deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated.
Join KOSU and Focus: Black Oklahoma for the grand opening of the Focus: Black Rodeo photography exhibition on Saturday, February 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. at KOSU, 18 N. Klein Ave. in Oklahoma City. The event is free and open to the public.
