The weirder the better.Join us for a special edition of Factory Obscura's monthly Adult Night (a place that celebrates weird!), for an evening of stories about the weirder things in life. 21+ only.The OKC StorySLAM is an open-mic storytelling event. Participants are invited to tell a story in seven minutes or less, relating to the theme for each event. Stories must be true (or as best remembered by the storyteller) and told without the use of notes. All participating storytellers can sign up to tell their story at the beginning of the evening. Prizes will be awarded to the best stories of the evening. This OKC StorySLAM is part of our 2025 tour of slams around OKC, celebrating 20 years of the OKC StorySLAM!

Push the plot of your writing dreams forward at WriterCon in Oklahoma City. This convention provides breakout sessions for writers of all levels—from newbies to multiple-book authors, and everyone in between. These sessions will share valuable knowledge about writing, marketing, and publishing. A three-tier ticket package will allow writers to take advantage of multiple opportunities such as master classes, private consultations, manuscript reviews by published authors, and even an author head shot by a professional photographer. In the evening, engage with other writers and industry experts during an informal roundtable discussion. Be sure to bring your notebook to test out some ideas at open mic night and have fun belting your heart out during karaoke.

Oklahoma Book Award winner Sheldon Russell will sit down for a cozy interview with OSU's Dr. Mary Larson. Afterwards, Russell will sign copies of "Listen" for the participants of Stillwater Reads.
This event is a part of “Stillwater Reads,” the Stillwater Public Library’s eleventh community-wide reading series taking place during September 2025. The featured books include “Listen” by Sheldon Russell, for adults, and “Nowhere Better Than Here” by Sarah Guillory, for youth (recommended for grades 4-7). Readers interested in participating can pick up a free copy of the books starting August 18 (while supplies last). Adults must sign up to attend a book discussion to get a free copy of “Listen.”
“Stillwater Reads” is funded by the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library. Books are provided courtesy of the Amazon Think Big program. Dr. Matthew Pearce, Oklahoma Historical Society's State Historian and former National Register of Historic Places Coordinator for Oklahoma, will discuss the history of WPA architecture, with a focus on local structures.
