Open Design Collective has officially announced the launch of the Black Town Homecoming Project; a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with the Oklahoma Historical Society to honor the legacy and future of Oklahoma’s historic Black towns of Tullahassee, Taft, and Rentiesville. This launch event will take place in the heart of Tulsa’s historic Greenwood District at Fulton Street Books & Coffee on Saturday, September 20th from 5P-7:30P. This event is free and open to the public, and will bring attendees together to celebrate the introduction of the project while previewing what’s ahead. Guests will enjoy drinks, light bites, music from a live DJ, and a special appearance by social justice advocate, educator, and influencer, The Conscious Lee. The Black Town Homecoming Project uplifts the resilience and cultural significance of Oklahoma’s Black towns. “This project is both a call to action and a celebration,” said Vanessa Morrison, co-founder and CEO of Open Design Collective. “We’re excited to collaborate with the Oklahoma Historical Society on this project which builds from the contributions of the community leaders of these towns and the preservationists who came before us and made sure that these communities are never forgotten.”. Brahms | String Quartet No. 2, op.51, no.2

The ever-popular 101 Unplugged chamber series returns this season with performances now at 7:30pm. This premiere series performance begins with Brahms’ String Quartet No. 2, op.51, no.2. This notable and deeply expressive work consists of four movements. The quartet will feature rich harmonies, and complex interplay between instruments. The performance will feature a one-of-a-kind question and answer intermission where guests have the rare opportunity to engage with musicians and learn more about their craft and the Tulsa Symphony. Each ticket comes with a complimentary beverage of your choosing and light bites in this unique and beautiful downtown Tulsa modern space! Cash bar is also available. Revel in this intimate concert series and beautiful backdrop set in downtown Tulsa!

This gathering is open to artists of all levels and disciplines who want to spend time making, brainstorming, or simply being in the company of fellow creatives. Whether you’re starting something new, wrapping up a project, or just need a change of scenery, this is a welcoming space to reconnect with your practice and your community.

Bring your own materials, whether that’s a laptop, sketchpad, embroidery hoop, or something else entirely, or come ready to explore. We’ll have a few basic supplies on hand for spontaneous doodling, plus light snacks to keep you fueled while you work. All are welcome.

What to Expect:

6:00 PM – Doors Open: Get settled, grab a drink, and meet other creators.

6:30 PM – Open Coworking: Dive into your projects, ask for feedback, or simply enjoy the creative vibes.

9:00 PM – Wrap-Up: Share final thoughts and new connections.

The OSU Museum of Art presents "step across this line," an exhibition that explores how borders shape lives, identities, and histories. Through photography, video, printmaking, and painting, artists in this exhibition respond to the physical, political, and emotional experiences of migration. "step across this line" encourages viewers to reflect on their relationship to borders. It invites you to step across the line and be transformed.

Meridian Technology Center will present an introductory class for adults and teens ages 12 and up interested in starting a podcast. Learn about equipment, editing software, and more. Note: The library also has a podcasting kit available to borrow, and Meridian offers more advanced podcasting classes.

This event is a part of “Stillwater Reads,” the Stillwater Public Library’s eleventh community-wide reading series taking place during September 2025. The featured books include “Listen” by Sheldon Russell, for adults, and “Nowhere Better Than Here” by Sarah Guillory, for youth (recommended for grades 4-7). Readers interested in participating can pick up a free copy of the books starting August 18 (while supplies last). Adults must sign up to attend a book discussion to get a free copy of “Listen.”

“Stillwater Reads” is funded by the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library. Books are provided courtesy of the Amazon Think Big program. Additional support is provided by the Oklahoma State University Library, the Oklahoma Historical Society, Block 34, Meridian Technology Center, and Stillwater Public Schools.

The Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) is the Southwestern chapter of Folk Alliance International. Our mission is to build and strengthen the community around folk music and songwriting. Each year, we present a conference in Austin, TX which connects artists, presenters, radio DJs, and fans to the rich, living tradition of folk music in our region, which covers Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Mexico.
