Street paper The Curbside Chronicle strives to help the homeless get back to what the rest of us consider a “normal” life while showing the general public what homelessness really looks like.

John and Elizabeth Tankard do not have a car.  This is by choice and through their blog, they hope to encourage other Oklahomans to make the same choice.

Recently, KOSU's Nikole Robinson Carroll took a trip out to a museum that’s been around for about 20 years in an Oklahoma City home, but has just moved to a nearby new facility and is prepared to open anew this week.  The subject matter of this museum is a particular animal, but not one that’s really thought of as iconic to Oklahoma like the bison.  It’s a bit smaller…  the pigeon.  Or as Sandy Bates calls them in “Stardust Memories,” “rats with wings.”

Recently, the Oklahoma State Capitol has become a major battleground in the debate over freedom of expression.  The placement of a Ten Commandments monument on the Capitol grounds has led to requests for statuary representation from other groups, including Hindus, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Satanic Temple.  The panel overseeing the Capitol grounds has stopped accepting these requests until an ACLU lawsuit regarding the Ten Commandments monument is settled, but the New York-based Satanic Temple is continuing with its plans.  It’s even submitted a design, which h

You may have noticed a new voice guiding you throughout the morning on KOSU. Beginning in November, Nikole Robinson Carroll joined KOSU as the new host of Morning Edition.

In addition to the homes and schools that sustained damage during this past tornado season, several area businesses, both large and small, took a hit.  The craft beer community was not immune, but like everyone else, is recovering.  Mustang Brewing Company, established in 2009, just opened its new tasting room and goes back into full-scale production in 2014.  A newer brand, Black Mesa Brewing Company, is also rising from the wreckage to continue quenching the thirst of craft beer enthusiasts in Oklahoma.

Mustang Brewing Company’s brand new tasting room opened Friday for the first time since sampling beer became legal in November.  Company President Tim Schoelen says the event was not only a momentous legal occasion; it was also a great way to celebrate Mustang’s move into a new brewhouse after the May tornado.  Schoelen says Mustang resumes full-scale commercial production in their new home in 2014 with a new series of craft beers.  Mustang also continues its collaborative relationship with the band Hanson and their MMMHops line of brews.

Flip through the radio stations in your car or visit the mall this month and you’ll probably hear “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas” a time or two.  The song was recorded in 1953 by then 10-year-old Oklahoman Gayla Peevey.  The song’s popularity helped raise enough money to adopt Matilda, the Oklahoma City Zoo’s first hippo.  KOSU's Nikole Robinson Carroll had a chat with Peevey for the 60th anniversary of the song’s release.

Whovians young and old came together in Oklahoma City for the "Doctor Who" feature film “Day of the Doctor.”  When asked to choose a favorite incarnation of the Doctor, their answers were as varied as their age range.   

New fans and devotees from the classic days of the series unite in their love of the Doctor, regardless of his form – but they don’t all agree on which of the Doctor’s companions they love most.  

After failing results and a lawsuit, DHS is taking a different approach to shore up its foster care system. The agency is outsourcing. Contracting foster parent recruitment and management out to private agencies that have more free time and available resources. KOSU’s Quinton Chandler reports how the change is expected to help and the reaction from a couple of Oklahoma City’s foster parents.
