978 new infections were reported by Oklahoma health officials on Saturday, for a total of 428,536 positive cases since last March. In the past seven days, Oklahoma has reported 4,734 new cases for an average of 676 infections per day.
On Wednesday, the state announced it would no longer report death statistics and rather begin using a Provisional Death Count from the CDC and NCHS in its daily updates. That number reflects COVID deaths based on death certificates. Recently, Oklahoma's reported death count was about 2,500 deaths shy of what the CDC was reporting. Under the new standard, the total of 7,202 deaths due to the virus since last March remained unchanged from Friday.
While the state is using a Provisional Death Count in its weekday emails, that number still does not yet appear on the state's coronavirus update website.
411,624 people — more than 96 percent of the total cases — have since been classified as having recovered from the virus.
There are 12,378 active cases in the state.
