As expected, the new Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine secured federal approval and is on its way to Oklahoma.
The Food and Drug Administration approved a third coronavirus shot this weekend. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine varies from the others in that it requires only one dose, making it a boon for hard-to-reach communities such as homeless populations and rural communities.
Health officials also refer to it by the name of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine arm, Janssen.
"We expect to receive 31,500 doses in the first shipment of the Jannsen vaccine. This shipment should arrive sometime later this week," said Deputy Commissioner of Health Keith Reed in a briefing Monday.
Like federal health officials, Reed reiterated that all three vaccines are safe and effective, and the best choice is the one you can get the soonest.
