Local dance instructor Janice Hunter will teach attendees basic Western swing dance steps and some simple line dances, so readers can confidently cut a rug at the community picnic and dance finale.
This event is a part of “Stillwater Reads,” the Stillwater Public Library’s eleventh community-wide reading series taking place during September 2025. The featured books include “Listen” by Sheldon Russell, for adults, and “Nowhere Better Than Here” by Sarah Guillory, for youth (recommended for grades 4-7). Readers interested in participating can pick up a free copy of the books starting August 18 (while supplies last). Adults must sign up to attend a book discussion to get a free copy of “Listen.”
“Stillwater Reads” is funded by the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library. Books are provided courtesy of the Amazon Think Big program. Additional support is provided by the Oklahoma State University Library, the Oklahoma Historical Society, Block 34, Meridian Technology Center, and Stillwater Public Schools.

The Friends of Will Rogers Gardens Foundation is pleased to announce our annual free family-friendly outdoor event and fundraiser for the Friends Foundation.Garden Party with Friends will be held at Will Rogers Gardens on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 8:00-11:00am. Festivities will be based in the lovely Color Garden, across the pond from the Conservatory. Bring the family, lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the beauty and fun of an autumn morning during the annual monarch migration in the Gardens with Friends.This fun-for-all morning will include a plant sale, musical performances by the Putnam City Silver Strings, free gardening information and advice, Alpaca petting zoo, food trucks and more. Kids and families can enjoy kid-friendly activities. You can join the Friends organization at the Garden Party with Friends. Memberships in the Friends of Will Rogers Gardens Foundation are $25 annually for a basic membership, and $50 for a sustaining level. Lifetime memberships are also available for $300.
The third annual VERSES community literacy & arts event will take place at Central Library on Saturday, September 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. VERSES supports the Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service and brings together poetry, storytelling, visual art, and community connection in a vibrant and immersive setting.
