The president confirmed a plan to expand one of the signature pieces of his immigration policy. A person briefed on the plan said Trump will soon announce travel restrictions for seven more countries.

Scientists from nations including Iran, Mexico, and India were refused visas to attend this year's Society for Neuroscience meeting in Chicago. Some researchers got stand-ins to present their work.

By a 5-4 vote, the court reversed a series of lower court decisions and said a rule banning nearly all travelers from five mainly Muslim countries was within the president's authority.

The court's conservatives were clearly leaning in the government's favor Wednesday in the long-anticipated travel ban case. It would be a big win for one of the pillars of the president's politics.

"The executive order, at its heart, says Yemeni people are bad and they need to stay away. We say no! We are part of the fabric of the country," says a Yemeni-American whose mother was denied a visa.

"In light of its decision to consider the case on an expedited basis, we expect that the Court of Appeals will render its decision with appropriate dispatch," the order says.

Travelers from six Muslim-majority nations may be temporarily barred entry into the United States if they don't have a close "bona fide relationship with a person or entity in this country."

Parties in the two cases — Trump v. International Refugee Assistance Project and Trump v. Hawaii — have until next Thursday, Oct. 5, to file new briefs over whether parts of the cases are now moot.
