Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma to Host Winter Carnival and Sign-Up Event in Yukon

Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma will host a Winter Carnival and Sign-Up Event for parents of girls interested in joining a local Girl Scout Troop from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at Canadian Valley Baptist Church, located at 11500 SW 15th St.

Lynette Blevins, GSWESTOK membership specialist, will present information on how for more than 100 years Girl Scouts has been providing opportunities for girls to grow through friendships, mentoring and adventures.

The event will also feature a Snowflake Challenge. Girls will be able to unleash their creativity and engineering skills as they design and construct intricate snowflakes using the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM).

“Girls will dive into the world of symmetry, patterns and precision to create unique snowflakes,” said Blevins. “Whether they are a budding scientist or a tech enthusiast, this challenge promises frosty fun for all ages.”

Reservations are required to attend the event. Parents should text the word “Yukon” to (405) 442-0684 to reserve their place.

Girl Scouts is open to girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. Participation gives girls the chance to engage in a variety of activities that empower them to explore their potential, assume leadership roles and hone diverse skills. Scholarships are available.

“We want every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout to have that opportunity,” said Blevins. “By offering scholarships, we hope to eliminate the barrier of financial hardship.”
