As colleges across Oklahoma kickoff their fall semesters, risky behavior among students has already caused some concern.

On Saturday, Oklahoma State University announced nearly two dozen COVID-19 infections at an off-campus sorority house.

The release said the 23 positive COVID cases were determined though rapid antigen testing at an off-campus health care facility.

The sorority is currently quarantined and members are prohibited from leaving the house. One of the infected members does not live in the chapter house, but will also be quarantined.


Oklahoma State University’s annual homecoming celebration is yet another casualty of the coronavirus.


Starting this Saturday, face masks must be worn in the City of Stillwater.

On Thursday evening, Stillwater City Council voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance that requires the use of face coverings in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19. It's similar to one passed by Norman City Council on Tuesday.

A crowd of more than 300 people gathered in front of the Stillwater Police Department Wednesday morning to peacefully protest the death of George Floyd.

The protest was organized by two community members, with support from several black student associations at Oklahoma State University, and featured speeches by leaders with the Oklahoma City chapter of Black Lives Matter.

One speaker encouraged the crowd to go beyond just posting on social media and work to make race issues better. Another talked about how fed up he was about racial inequities in America.

Independence Day celebrations in Oklahoma will be different this year due to COVID-19.

Stillwater's Boomer Blast has been postponed, with the city exploring options to hold the fireworks show later this year.

“We know it’s a disappointment; however, this decision was made out of concern for our community,” Special Events Coordinator Stephanie Kinder said in a written statement.

Alberto Morejon, a leader of the 2018 state teacher walkout, was arrested Tuesday for making lewd proposals to a minor.

The social studies teacher from Stillwater was arrested for sending sexual messages to a former student. No other details have been released.

Stillwater Mayor Will Joyce recently appeared on the national talk radio show America Amplified: Life, Community and COVID-19. The show explores local community perspectives and solutions to issues during the coronavirus pandemic.

In the May 16th airing of the show, Mayor Joyce talked about Stillwater's reopening plan, which orginally required customers to wear face masks. The mayor later amended his plan to include a strong recommendation for masks after store employees were threated with violence.


The mayors of Oklahoma's two largest cities say they will allow their orders to slow the spread of coronavirus to expire on April 30.
