Moulin Rouge! The Musical took home 10 awards, including the night's biggest: Best musical. The Inheritance won for best play, and A Soldier's Play for best revival.

The honors bestowed to the adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film included best new musical. "The Inheritance" was named the best new play, and "A Soldier's Play" won best play revival.

The new musicals, based on a movie and an animated TV show, earned 12 nominations each. Angels in America, The Band's Visit and Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel each received 11.
