A power blackout hit all of Puerto Rico on Wednesday as the heavily Catholic U.S. territory prepared to celebrate the Easter weekend.

Lights returned to households as well as to Puerto Rico's hospitals, water plants and sewage facilities after the massive outage that exposed the persistent electricity problems plaguing the island.

The candidates are both spending time on the last day of the campaign in Reading — a majority-Latino city — where that bad joke about Puerto Rico has resonated.

In Pennsylvania — a pivotal state in this year's tight election — Puerto Ricans wield significant clout. A comedian at a Trump rally called Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage."

Donald Trump put on a splashy rally at New York's hallmark Madison Square Garden, but repeated insults and at times racist and misogynistic remarks from speakers threatened to grab the most attention.

Delegates from Puerto Rico referred to the island territory as "the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the next state of the United States" before casting their votes for Kamala Harris during Tuesday night's roll call.

Puerto Rico activated the National Guard and canceled the start of classes in public schools as forecasters warned that the U.S. territory would be hit by Tropical Storm Ernesto.

It all boils down to rules set by the International Olympic Committee.

The territory already passed a law committing to that goal by 2050, but getting there is easier said than done.

Most people with dengue will show no signs of infection or experience only mild symptoms, but in rare cases infections can become severe and potentially fatal.
