The alleged victim's mother says for three years, a BBC star funded her teen's drug habit in exchange for explicit photos. It's the latest scandal to rock Britain's beleaguered public broadcaster.

Press freedom advocates around the world have decried this week's raids on the BBC — in which journalists and accountants alike were questioned, and had their phones and laptops searched.

Two well-known journalists have found themselves at the center of media ethics controversies: CNN's Chris Cuomo and former BBC correspondent Martin Bashir.

The Chinese state news agency said the BBC had "undermined China's national interests and ethnic solidarity." Britain stripped the license for CGTN, the Chinese global television network, last week.

The BBC hopes people in countries that have blocked their website, such as China, Iran and Vietnam, could now have unrestricted access to the British news service.

Carrie Gracie, a highly respected 30-year veteran at the network, says the BBC has refused to match the pay of male colleagues who earn 50 percent more than her salary.

RTHK, the territory's public-service broadcaster, says it will drop a 24-hour stream of the BBC World Service, prompting an online petition and concern over press freedom in Hong Kong.

The BBC released on-air salaries for the first time, at the British government's behest. The top seven salaries all go to men. The highest pay: more than $2.8 million for a radio host.
