Visitation Suspended At Oklahoma Prisons In Effort To Quell COVID Spread

OKLAHOMA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

State prisoners won’t be getting any more visitors.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections announced Wednesday it suspended visitation across all of its state-run institutions as a precaution against COVID-19.

The decision comes after a huge spike in COVID-19 infections among prisoners that began in late August.

The corrections agency reported 647 prisoners were infected with the disease Wednesday and more than 3,600 have tested positive since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The department and its telephone vendor are offering prisoners two free 10-minute phone calls each week to keep in touch with their friends and families.
