Resources Offered To Ease Oklahoma School Districts Into Distance Learning

As school districts attempt to make a transition to distance learning, one resource they can turn to is Oklahoma’s Statewide Virtual Charter School Board.

The board has long helped smaller districts connect to vendors of virtual schooling through its Oklahoma Supplemental Online Course Program. Now that program will likely be kicked into overdrive.

Rebecca Wilkinson, the Executive Director of the board that oversees virtual charters, says she and her board are offering the courses and webinar resources to districts who might struggle to finish off the school year.

"Teachers need those resources in their hands so that when students come back on April 6th, they’ve got a plan to serve them in these last five to six weeks of school," Wilkinson said.

Wilkinson also says she does not anticipate enrollment growth in the virtual charter schools that her board oversees. There’s not much schooling left in the year, so she predicts that students will want to stay with their district if it has adequate distance resources.
