Republican leaders in the Oklahoma Senate gathered Thursday for a press conference on their agenda for the coming legislative session.
Senate President Pro Tem Mike Schulz says the work of this session goes beyond just this year and looks to the future.
"I'm incredibly proud of this group of men and women that have sat down and put the work in to look forward and say 'here's where we want to be in 10 years, here's where we want to be in 20 years,' knowing that it will be our successors that see that work to the end."
The agenda includes items they say will lead to a more prosperous state by eliminating excessive regulation, diversifying the economy and eliminating tax incentives which don’t create jobs.
Schulz says one of the first items for the new session is coming into compliance with the Federal Real ID Act.
"The governor, myself, and the speaker have been in meetings and discussions through the interim, through the fall, leading up to this point. We're going to get a piece of Real ID legislation passed quickly and signed by the governor quickly."
The plan also calls for efforts to raise teacher pay by reducing administrative and overhead costs in education.
Additional agenda items include efforts to support law enforcement, monitor and improve criminal justice reform, and promote access to quality health care.
Republicans hold a supermajority in both the House and Senate in the upcoming legislative session which begins on February 6.
