Oklahoma City Police confront an inmate as he holds a hostage at the Oklahoma County Jail.

The Oklahoma City Police Department has released graphic video footage of the recent hostage takeover at the Oklahoma County Detention Center.

The videos show police shooting the man who took a detention officer hostage.

The police fired shortly after entering the room. Curtis Williams was holding the detention officer at the top of a stairway with what appeared to be a make-shift knife.

When Williams pushed the officer down to his knees, police shot him. The officer fell down the stairs and police moved forward to get him out of the room.

Before the police entered the area, surveillance videos showed the detainees taking the detention officer hostage and another detainee – not Williams – can be seen stabbing the officer.

The detention officer was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and jail staff have said he is recovering.

The police department said in a news release that two officers shot Williams: Lt. Coy Gilbert and Officer Kevin Kuhlman. They have been placed on administrative leave.
