Oklahoma City Announces Plan For Ice Storm Debris Clean-Up

Rachel Hubbard / KOSU
Oklahoma City residents clean-up limbs from the ice storm in late October.

Following a historic ice storm in late October, the Oklahoma City metro was left especially littered with tree debris. Now, city leaders have laid out their clean-up plan for residents.

Oklahoma City crews will begin picking up trees and branches on Monday, November 16.

The pickups will be for residential trash collection customers only, meaning commercial properties like apartments, schools and churches are responsible for their own debris removal.

The clean-up will be in two phases, with the first round scheduled to be completed by the end of January and the second phase by March 6th.

Clean-up crews will work Monday through Saturday in the areas with the most debris and work outward. They're expected to pick up an estimated 100,000 tons of tree and limb debris. There will also be an online map that will show where collection crews have made their first and second passes.

Residential trash customers can also dispose of tree and limb debris free-of-charge at one of the four landfills every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through January 2nd.

You can find the tree removal map at okc.gov/ice.
