Before Moving Into Dorms, University of Oklahoma Students Will Be Tested For COVID-19

Before University of Oklahoma students can move into their dorms this fall, they must first take a COVID-19 test.

Students living in on-campus housing will be sent a saliva COVID-19 test in the mail that they must self-administer to be allowed to move in on the Norman campus. OU is also working with Greek organizations to have students moving into those houses tested.

The move is an effort by OU to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Students will need to mail their test in where it will be processed. If they test positive, they won't be allowed to move in. If they test negative and pass a basic screening test, they will be allowed on campus.

The measure is just one of many OU is taking to prep for a changed semester. Classes will be spread apart throughout the day to reduce congestion, many have already been moved online and masks will be mandatory on campus.

But if COVID-19 cases continue to escalate, OU President Joe Harroz has said the university might be forced to move schooling online like it did in the spring.
