Last month, the U.S. Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs approvedthe Kiowa Tribe's request to put new land in western Oklahoma into trust for economic development purposes.
The 11.33-acre parcel in Hobart will be used for an entertainment venue, which will include a restaurant, office space and possibly a casino.
"The cooperation between tribal, city, county and state officials paved the way to a win-win situation not only for the Tribe but for the region as well with the promise of new jobs and revenues," Tara Katuk Mac Lean Sweeney, Assistant Secretary – Indian Affairs, said in a statement.
The project is expected to employ more than 150 people and create economic growth for the area.
"I can tell you it will definitely boost the economy in that area because it's pretty distressed," said Frieda Satepeahtaw with the Kiowa Tribe.
The Kiowa Tribe is seeking to restore its land base in western Oklahoma and create more opportunity for economic development.
