The seventeenth edition of deadCenter Film Festival kicked off last night in downtown Oklahoma City, and Executive Director Lance McDaniel has been planning and anticipating with his crew for the big weekend.
Filmmakers have submitted more than 100 films that will be screened through Sunday in several locations throughout the metro area, with special events and activities in between.
"We have 102 films that were picked out the 1,200 that were submitted. There's something for every single type of person at the festival, so we're very proud of the slate of films this year," McDaniel said.
In addition to film screenings, deadCenter includes workshops, Q&A panels, and new this year – an immersive virtual reality experience.
"We've really made a big play into virtual reality, and so at 21C Museum Hotel, we'll have eight virtual reality filmmakers and so there will be eight films you can see with the headsets," he said. "We wanted to make sure that people were actually using it to tell stories, that people we're using it as a narrative tool."
deadCenter Film Festival runs through Sunday night in Oklahoma City.
