Coronavirus Updates: Dentists Get Ready, Edmond Businesses Reopening, Tulsa Increases Tracing

Local dentists are getting ready to start seeing patients again on Friday.

Governor Kevin Stitt’s phased-in reopening plan allows for routine restorative and preventative care to resume on May 1.

The Oklahoma Dental Association is urging dentists to take precautions in protecting staff, patients and themselves from COVID-19 as they reopen their doors.

Offices could establish new check-in procedures to possibly include requiring patients to call or text when they arrive or to eliminate waiting area seating altogether.

The City of Edmond is allowing some businesses and churches to open on Friday.

The council affirmed a resolution on Monday to follow guidelines laid out by Governor Kevin Stitt’s plan using a three-phased approach to reopening businesses.

Starting Friday, restaurants, movie theaters, gyms, salons, pet groomers, barbershops, churches and city facilities such as its golf and tennis clubs can open. Reopened businesses will have to follow personal distancing guidelines.

Contact tracing in Tulsa County is averaging 36 exposures to the coronavirus for every positive case of COVID-19.

Health officials say contact tracing can slow the spread of a disease by interrupting the chain of transmission. The procedure works to identify anyone within six feet of an infected individual for at least ten minutes during the person’s contagious period – about 48 hours prior to the onset of symptoms.

Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum is allowing the Tulsa Health Department to increase contact tracing as businesses start to reopen.
