The Cherokee Nation is launching a new program to improve internet access for its citizens living on and off the reservation.
Respond, Recover and Rebuild Mobile Hotspot Connectivity Assistance is a multi-million dollar program that will give Cherokee Citizens lacking internet up to a year of service. The goal is to decrease the digital divide while the Nation develops reliable broadband access throughout their communities.
Hotspots are smaller, portable devices that work just like a WiFi network.
There are no income requirements for the program, but households with K-12 students will be given priority.
Funding for the program comes from CARES Act dollars and the deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 11.
