The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Center for Health Statistics reported 88 additional deaths due to the coronavirus on Tuesday. No further details were provided.
Last week, the state announced it would no longer report death statistics and rather begin using a Provisional Death Count from the CDC and NCHS in its daily updates. That number reflects COVID deaths based on death certificates. Prior to that, Oklahoma's reported death count was about 2,500 deaths shy of what the CDC was reporting.
Under the new standard, there have been a total of 7,307 deaths due to the virus since last March.
While the state is using a Provisional Death Count in its weekday emails, that number still does not yet appear on the state's coronavirus update website.
270 new infections were reported by Oklahoma health officials on Tuesday, for a total of 429,432 positive cases since March 2020. In the past seven days, Oklahoma has reported 4,433 new cases for an average of 633 infections per day.
413,094 people — more than 96 percent of the total cases — have since been classified as having recovered from the virus.
There are 11,637 active cases in the state.
