Five more Oklahomans have died due to COVID-19, increasing the state's death toll to 278. One of the deaths occurred in the past 24 hours, while the others died between April 30 and May 9. The deaths reported Tuesday include:
- One in Cleveland County, a female in the 65 and older age group.
- One in Greer County, a female in the 65 and older age group.
- One in Ottawa County, a female in the 65 and older age group.
- One in Tillman County, a male in the 65 and older age group.
- One in Tulsa County, a female in the 50-64 age group.
UPDATE: Monday's COVID-19 update said 274 Oklahomans had died from the virus, but when officials reported five additional deaths on Tuesday, the total number was shown as 278, not 279. The Frontier reports a Washington County resident that was listed as deceased on April 14 is very much alive. It's unclear how the discrepancy happen and why it was left uncorrected for nearly one month.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health confirmed that total positive cases of the coronavirus in the state now stand at 4,732, an increase of 119 cases from Monday. That's a two and a half percent increase in total reported cases.
3,423 people — more than 72 percent of the total cases — have since recovered from the virus. 190 Oklahomans are currently hospitalized as either confirmed positive COVID-19 cases or under investigation for the virus.
