U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas has been on a media tour this week promoting the coronavirus vaccine. The Oklahoma Congressman is urging Oklahomans to trust science and get the coronavirus vaccine.

Lucas is the top Republican on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, which oversees most of the country’s major scientific research institutions.

"Whether it is the COVID vaccine or other things that have been developed in these programs, it's done with the highest ethical standards, it's done with the highest medical standards. It is done in a way that is the envy of the planet," said Lucas.

He said back in his district, he’s hearing the misinformation-based concerns from those hesitant to take the vaccine. He said community leaders of all kinds are responsible for amplifying the truth.

"My friends in the legislative process and the political process here in the nation's capital, on both sides of the room, need to be a little less shrill and a little more focused on the common good," he said.

This messaging comes at a critical time. Hospitalizations have again surpassed 500 daily — numbers not seen since February. The state’s vaccination rate has hit a hard plateau at about 40 percent.
