Bynum Unseats Bartlett in Tulsa Mayoral Race

KWGS
Mayor-Elect G.T. Bynum addresses well wishers at his watch party on Tuesday.

G.T. Bynum—like most of the pundits—fully thought the Tulsa Mayor’s race would continue until November.

However, he bested a field of four other candidates to claim more than 50% of the election night returns and unseated two-term mayor Dewey Bartlett.

Bynum wants to develop a closer relationship with educators.

"The city in the past has had kind of a hands-off approach to education, but I think that's got to change. We received a clear mandate to be an education mayor and that's entirely my objective."

Bartlett pledges a smooth transition and has no regrets.

"I think we've had a good track record. Seven years has been a pretty good run. So, now we have several more months to go. But, no - no regrets."

Bynum will take over a mayor in December.
