Two Republicans Vying for Tulsa County Seat

A Republican runoff election for House District 69 in Tulsa County will determine a new Representative at the State Capitol.

KOSU’s Michael Cross reports with no Democratic challenger, both candidates are touting their conservative principals to voters.

Electrical Engineer Chuck Strohm got 31% of the vote in June’s primary, but since then he has been endorsed by several different state conservative groups.

He says since the election he’s been getting out and meeting the voters.

“You know, really what we’re hearing from most people is a desire for smaller government and concerns about education reform. They’re really concerned about education. They don’t want business as usual.”

Tulsa business owner Melissa Abdo who came in with 46% in the primary says she is looking for solutions based on Christian values, the constitution and common sense.

She says she has experience dealing with education issues as a member of the Jenks School Board.

“I’m hopeful that my experience with some of the education policy an understanding where we’ve come from there and where we need to go, I’m hoping that will be beneficial.”

Abdo or Strohm will replace Representative Fred Jordan who is running for Tulsa County District Attorney.

Polls open for the primary on August 26th with early voting at county election boards on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
