WNYC Studios and PRX announced on Monday that Melissa Harris-Perry has been named as host of The Takeaway, the nationally-syndicated public radio news program heard on KOSU weekdays at 1 p.m. She has been serving as interim host since July 2021 and her appointment as permanent host is effective immediately.

Harris-Perry has hosted an eponymous show on MSNBC from 2012-2016 and her writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, among many other print and digital venues. She also has served as editor-at-large for Elle.com and for ZORA, a Medium publication for women of color. She was among the earliest writers at TheRoot.com and authored highly regarded columns for Essence and The Nation.

"Hosting The Takeaway is an astonishing and humbling opportunity. The Takeaway enjoys a truly authentic relationship with our listeners, and that community makes this hosting experience especially rich and rewarding," said Harris-Perry. "I'm excited to create captivating radio with the dedicated, creative, and professional team of The Takeaway each day. And I must admit, I am nerding out about the chance to call Brian Lehrer my co-worker."
