For more than 20 years, dobro player Jerry Douglas has been one of Nashville's most sought-after sidemen, appearing on hundreds of CDs. His ethereal sliding sounds have graced the albums of everyone from Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton to Ray Charles and jazz guitarist Bill Frisell.

Latetly, Douglas has been leading his own band and he's been erforming as featured soloist with Alison Krauss and Union Station since 2000.

His most recent solo CD is Lookout for Hope, released in 2000. The disc features a multitracked Dobro arrangement of the Duane Allman tune "Little Martha." It also includes vocal cameos from Maura O'Connell and James Taylor and appearances by mandolin players Sam Bush and Nickel Creek's Chris Thile plus Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio.

Features in the series are produced by David Schulman and NPR's Jeffrey Freymann-Weyr.
