The Strawbs: Pop's Timeline Gets Unplugged

The Strawbs' members are survivors. Enduring for more than 40 years, their brand of rock has defied categorization, the process creating a virtual timeline of pop music.

Originally a bluegrass outfit called The Strawberry Hill Boys, the young group performed on the English folk circuit for nearly a decade before finding pop success. Line-ups and genres changed, its sound ranging from psychedelia to glam rock. The band broke apart to form new projects — most notably Hudson Ford and The Monks — but would continue to reunite throughout the '80s and '90s.

The Acoustic Strawbs formed by accident. After a wrist injury prevented Dave Cousins from playing guitar during an acoustic gig with former Strawbs member Brian Willoughby, Dave Lambert was brought in to cover the guitar duties. The trio has been recording together since 2001. In addition to performances as the Acoustic Strawbs, the members are keeping busy by performing as the original Strawbs lineup from the mid-'70s.
