Tri-City Collective’s project is dedicated to honoring the rich, yet underrepresented, legacy of the Black rodeo culture in Oklahoma.
Photographer Jamie Glisson of ImpressOK Studio shines a light on the vibrant world of Black rodeos in Oklahoma — a world that has preservered in the face of America's Jim Crow era and ongoing institutional racism, which have kept these stories from receiving the same recognition as those of predominantly white rodeo circuits.
Focus: Black Rodeo seeks to create a narrative that invites visitors to experience the thrill, artistry and legacy of Black rodeos as a foundational aspect of American culture — one that deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated.
This exhibit is funded in part by Oklahoma Humanities (OH) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in the program do not necessarily represent those of OH or NEH.
