Oklahoma City asks residents to drop off household hazardous waste before temporary center closure

Oklahoma City Public Works

Oklahoma City normally offers a service to help residents safely dispose of things like batteries, paint and cleaning chemicals.

OKC’s Household Hazardous Waste Center is closing on Feb.11 for renovations and is expected to reopen in mid-March. While the facility gets a facelift, waste disposal services won’t be available.

Oklahoma City’s Stormwater Quality Division, which oversees the service, is encouraging people to drop off their household hazardous waste before the facility closes. Otherwise, residents will need to hold onto it until service resumes on March 14.

According to a notice from the Public Works Department, the renovations will treat the facility’s floors to protect them from chemical spills.

The center is normally open for dropoff between 9:30 am and 6 pm on weekdays or Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30. More information about what materials are accepted and what to expect during dropoff is available from the city’s website.
