Wilson Police officers Joshua Taylor (left) and Brandon Dingman (right) were convicted of second-degree murder on Friday, Nov. 5.

Two former police officers from the south-central Oklahoma town of Wilson have been convicted of second-degree murder after tasing a man more than 50 times in 2019.

After a seven-month investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic, former Wilson police officers Joshua Taylor and Brandon Dingman were convicted on Friday in the 2019 death of Jared Lakey.

The officers were responding to a disorderly conduct call about Lakey. When the 28-year-old did not comply with their commands, they deployed their tasers a total of 53 times.

Lakey stopped breathing and died two days later due to complications of a heart attack.

Taylor and Dingman were each found guilty of second-degree murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. They each face a minimum of 10 years in prison.
