During a test run in Oklahoma City, Governor Kevin Stitt announced Thursday that REAL IDs will be available to Oklahomans on July 1st.
The identifications will be a requirement to fly, or enter federal buildings or military bases starting in 2021.
Oklahoma has received multiple extensions to implement REAL ID over the past several years. The rollout of REAL IDs was most recently scheduled for April 30, but had to be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The federal REAL ID Act was passed by U.S. Congress in 2005 to ensure the authenticity of driver's licenses.
Oklahoma and Oregon are the only two states to not yet be fully compliant with the law.
