On November 1, changes are coming to driver licenses under legislation passed earlier this year.
Captain Randy Rogers with the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety says the new law gives those with expired out-of-state licenses a six month grace period to renew without having to retake driving tests.
"Most people, if it's just expired by a few days, we know they've already been properly tested by these other states. It just make sense to give them a little bit of a grace period as other states are allowing some of our residents moving to another state."
The legislation also gives DPS the authority to look into making licenses renewable online, but Rogers says that's a small piece of their modernization program currently underway. Rogers says online renewals probably won’t be available for another 18 to 24 months.
