The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Center for Health Statistics reported 53 additional deaths due to the coronavirus on Friday. No further details were provided.
Last week, the state announced it would no longer report death statistics and rather begin using a Provisional Death Count from the CDC and NCHS in its daily updates. That number reflects COVID deaths based on death certificates. Prior to that, Oklahoma's reported death count was about 2,500 deaths shy of what the CDC was reporting.
Under the new standard, there have been a total of 7,486 deaths due to the virus since last March.
422 new infections were also reported, for a total of 431,366 positive cases since March 2020. In the past seven days, Oklahoma has reported 3,808 new cases for an average of 544 infections per day.
415,067 people — more than 96 percent of the total cases — have since been classified as having recovered from the virus.
There are 11,598 active cases in the state.
