Saturday Event Could Save a Child's Life

Spending 15 minutes to focus on safety could save a child's life.

KOSU's Crystal Huffman tells us how.

This Saturday the Oklahoma Department of Health is sponsoring a free car seat check.

Child Passenger Safety Instructor Regina McCurdy says parents might be surprised how often a car seat isn't installed properly.

“Four out of five car seats have some type of misuse. Some of that’s critical misuse. Some of it’s minor misuse, but best case scenario is if it’s minor misuse it’s going to cause an injury, if it’s critical misuse it’s could cost the child their life.”

Child safety seats reduce the risk of death in a crash by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

The free car seat check takes place at the Health Department Central Office near NE 10th and Lincoln from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday.
