Alberto Morejon, a leader of the 2018 state teacher walkout, was arrested Tuesday for making lewd proposals to a minor.
The social studies teacher from Stillwater was arrested for sending sexual messages to a former student. No other details have been released.
Morejon was a pivotal figure in the walkout that aimed to increase pay for teachers across Oklahoma. He was the architect of one of the most popular Facebook pages used by teachers to organize, “Oklahoma Teacher Walkout — The Time Is Now!” That group still boasts 65,000 members and is an active sounding board for people interested in education issues statewide.
Stillwater Public Schools released a statement Wednesday that it was cooperating with local police in their investigation and had no knowledge of the incident before Morejon’s arrest.
