Oklahoma Getting $40 Million In Emergency Block Grants For Education

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Education announced Oklahoma will receive $40 million in emergency block grant funds to disburse to the state's education system because of COVID-19.

The funding comes courtesy of a provision in the recently passed federal CARES Act, which will dole out $2.2 trillion dollars in stimulus funding in response to the pandemic.

Governors of all 50 states and Puerto Rico were given $3 billion in the act to distribute as grants. Governor Kevin Stitt will be able to decide where the $40 million Oklahoma is receiving will go.

Oklahoma's higher education system has already received more than $100 million through grants made available because of the crisis. And more money is on the way for Oklahoma’s K-12 school districts. An exact amount for Oklahoma schools will be determined by the U.S. Department of Education at a later date.
