West Point: Preparing the Army's Future Leaders

The U.S. Army is adapting the way it trains its next generation of leaders at West Point to reflect lessons learned from the war in Iraq.

Cadets regularly hear from officers and experts who've been on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the curriculum is constantly evolving to reflect the latest developments in fighting terrorism.

In the first of two reports, NPR's Robert Smith explores the experience of attending West Point during a time of war. Today's cadets are the first generation of students to enroll at the academy in wartime since the Vietnam era.
