Event Description

Did you know that the Wizard of OZ was inspired by real people and events? L. Frank Baum crafted this modern fairy-tale in 1900. Dorothy is based off a Kansas political leader and one of the most popular public speakers of the time. She spoke passionately in support of woman's suffrage all around the country. The history behind the Wizard of Oz helps explain the what other struggles the country was wrestling with and why it took so long to secure passage of the Susan B. Anthony Amendment. 2020 is the centennial anniversary of the passage of our 19th amendment. The exhibit will be on display in the Carnegie Library throughout the year.
